[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Daehyun] Former President Lee Myung-bak was hospitalized for treatment of a chronic illness and was re-incarcerated in prison after being discharged 12 days later.
According to the Ministry of Justice on the 28th, the former president was admitted to Seoul National University Hospital in Jongno-gu, Seoul on the 17th for a detailed examination related to his chronic illness. Following the medical staff's opinion, he was discharged and returned to Anyang Prison.

The former president has been receiving hospital treatment for chronic illnesses including diabetes, and visited the hospital three times last year for medical care and treatment. He is currently serving a confirmed sentence of 17 years in prison, a fine of 13 billion KRW, and a confiscation of 5.78 billion KRW under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes for charges including bribery.
