SoftBank COO Who Demanded Compensation Expansion Finally Decides to Resign
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Hyunjin] Marcelo Claure, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of SoftBank and known as a close aide to SoftBank Chairman Masayoshi Son, is reportedly set to resign soon, according to CNBC and other media on the 27th (local time).
According to reports, Claure COO is expected to announce his departure from SoftBank as early as late tonight. Although the exact reason has not been disclosed, it is said that after disputes over compensation issues with SoftBank, no agreement was reached, leading to their separation.
Claure COO, who joined SoftBank in 2013, subsequently served as CEO of Sprint, a major SoftBank affiliate, overseeing the merger with T-Mobile, and took charge of WeWork after founder Adam Neumann stepped down, leading the company through its initial public offering (IPO), playing a key role in revitalizing the business.
Claure COO has reportedly been negotiating compensation issues with the company over the past several years. The New York Times (NYT) reported last month that Claure COO requested $2 billion from Chairman Masayoshi Son as compensation for pushing forward the WeWork IPO, but this was rejected.
