Philip Goldberg Appointed as U.S. Ambassador to South Korea
Former Ambassador to Colombia and the Philippines... Request for Agr?ment in Korea
Philip Goldberg, the current U.S. Ambassador to Colombia who previously oversaw the implementation of North Korea sanctions at the State Department, has been nominated as the new U.S. Ambassador to South Korea.
According to government sources on the 26th, the Biden administration recently nominated Ambassador Goldberg as the new U.S. Ambassador to South Korea and has requested agrement (host country approval) from the South Korean government.
If the South Korean government grants agrement, the United States is expected to officially announce Ambassador Goldberg's nomination.
Ambassador Goldberg has been serving as the U.S. Ambassador to Colombia since 2019. Prior to that, he served as the U.S. Ambassador to the Philippines from 2013 to 2016.

Notably, during the Obama administration from 2009 to 2010, he served as the State Department’s Coordinator for the Implementation of United Nations North Korea Sanctions, overseeing the enforcement of UN Security Council Resolution 1874.
