Beopseoryeon Files Prosecution Complaint Against Jo Guk for Posting Manipulated 'Kim Geon-hee Transcript' Capture
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Daehyun] A civic group has filed a complaint with the prosecution against former Minister of Justice Cho Kuk for sharing and then deleting a manipulated 'Kim Geonhee recording' online.
On the morning of the 26th, Lee Jongbae, the representative of the Action Alliance for Restoring the Rule of Law (Beopse-ryeon), held a press conference in front of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office and announced that he had filed charges against former Minister Cho for defamation by false information under the Information and Communications Network Act and violations of the Public Official Election Act.
Lee stated, "Former Minister Cho's act of posting false information clearly constitutes defamation and election law violations," adding, "He is trying to evade the law by briefly exposing false facts and then deleting them, pretending there was no intent."
Earlier, on the 24th, former Minister Cho posted a message titled 'Kim Geonhee's thoughts on people in their teens and twenties' on his social media (SNS) account along with a video screenshot, but later deleted it.
This photo was a manipulated subtitle added to a 7-hour recorded phone conversation between Kim Geonhee, spouse of Yoon Seok-yeol, the People Power Party's presidential candidate, and a certain reporter.
It included statements such as "You saw how trashy Korean teens and twenties are. It's really funny," "If you look at public opinion, they have no self-esteem, only malice inside. Why? Because they have nothing going for them and their lives are stupid."
