Two Poultry Farms in Hwaseong Confirmed with Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza
[Asia Economy Reporter Minyoung Kim] The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters for Avian Influenza (AI) announced on the 23rd that highly pathogenic AI was confirmed at two layer chicken farms in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province.
This is the 23rd and 24th confirmed cases of highly pathogenic AI in poultry since last fall, with these farms raising a total of 427,000 layer chickens.
The headquarters immediately deployed an initial response team upon confirmation of suspected cases to implement quarantine measures such as controlling farm access, culling affected birds, and conducting epidemiological investigations.
An official from the headquarters stated, "It is a dangerous situation as highly pathogenic AI continues to be detected in wild birds and poultry farms," and urged, "Poultry farms must thoroughly implement biosecurity guidelines, including four-step disinfection protocols."
