"Suspicious Passenger" Voice Phishing Courier Caught Following Taxi Driver's Report
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] A man in his 40s suspected of embezzling about 30 million won in cash from a voice phishing victim was caught by the police following a taxi driver's report.
Seoul Dongjak Police Station announced on the 22nd that they had urgently arrested and were investigating a man in his 40s, Mr. A, on charges of fraud.
According to the police, Mr. A is accused of embezzling 31.3 million won in cash from victim Mr. B in Incheon the previous morning.
After receiving the money from Mr. B, Mr. A took a taxi heading to Seoul, and the taxi driver, suspicious of Mr. A's tone and the money envelope, reported him to the police.
The police tracked Mr. A's location through the taxi driver and arrested him around 11:54 a.m. that day in Shindaebang-dong, Dongjak-gu. The police considered Mr. A to be a courier for a voice phishing organization and booked him.
During the police investigation, Mr. A reportedly stated that he was running an errand.

A police official said, "After arresting Mr. A, a damage report was received," adding, "We will investigate the detailed circumstances of the case with both Mr. A and the victim."
