‘Naiyagara,’ one of Gyeongsangnam-do’s sports service industry promotion projects, was prepared in anticipation of the super-aged society in 2025, when the aging population will exceed 20%.
Through sports screening services, it aims to improve health and reduce social medical expenses by visiting the elderly and providing 1:1 customized exercise guidance and sports rehabilitation services.
Since the project started in 2020, it has achieved results such as creating 58 public jobs and providing services to 629 elderly people in the province.
The province announced that, separate from the visiting services conducted by the Korea Sports Promotion Foundation, sports associations, and city/county health centers, this program will be carried out nationwide for the first time in a resident-centered manner by visiting senior welfare centers, village halls in rural blind spots, and senior citizen centers.
It will be actively promoted by specializing the strengths of participating organizations through close cooperation with local universities, cities/counties, related associations, and the Gyeongnam Sports Industry Promotion Support Center.
Starting this year, the sports services will be expanded to an 8-week program, and events such as the Elderly Fitness King Competition will be held to motivate the elderly in the province to exercise.
Service providers for the elderly will be deployed on-site after 40 hours of training, which is expected to have the effect of increasing employment in sports-related service industries that declined due to the impact of COVID-19.
