Gwangju Nam-gu to Pay More Attention to 'Welfare Blind Spots' During Lunar New Year Holiday
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, has taken steps to care for residents in welfare blind spots until the end of the Lunar New Year holiday so that all residents in the district can have a happy Seol.
According to Nam-gu on the 18th, the warm holiday plan without welfare blind spots has been underway since the 13th, targeting elderly people living alone, children, people with disabilities, and single-parent families in the district.
Five departments, including the Welfare Policy Division, which handles welfare-related tasks, the Elderly Policy Division, the Disability Welfare Division, the Women and Family Division, and the Child Happiness Division, are participating in this plan.
Nam-gu visits 55 neighbors in care and social welfare facilities in the district to provide sponsored goods and consolation money, and also provides emergency food support for those in self-quarantine during the holiday period.
Additionally, meal support is provided during the holiday period so that elderly people and children from low-income families do not have to worry about meals.
First, 1,011 elderly people in the district who are at risk of missing meals are provided with substitute meal packages as meals at four social welfare facilities: Nam-gu Senior Welfare Center, Yangji Comprehensive Social Welfare Center, Bundo and Anna Ant Flower Hill, and St. Joseph's House.
Meal expenses have been supported at three social welfare facilities, excluding St. Joseph's House, which is operated with private and foundation sponsorship funds, and meal delivery services will also be provided for elderly people who have difficulty visiting these facilities due to mobility issues.
Children at risk of missing meals are either using substitute food lunchbox delivery services according to their situation or are being arranged to visit nearby convenience stores and regular restaurants to have their meals. Children are supported with five days' worth of meals during the Lunar New Year holiday period.
In addition, from the 24th of this month to the 3rd of next month, 250 people with severe disabilities aged 6 and above but under 65 will receive goods and services in connection with the Dong Welfare Community Council, and care support will be strengthened by checking on them through visits and phone calls.
Also, from the 20th, consolation money will be provided to 46 low-income single-parent families and protection facilities where victims of domestic violence and other abuses are staying.
