Despite COVID-19, Sales of Premium Brandy 'Cognac' Increase by 31%
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Byung-hee] Despite COVID-19, the sales of the premium brandy 'Cognac' have shown a rapid recovery.
Last year, Cognac sales increased by 31% to reach 3.6 billion euros, according to major foreign media citing the French Cognac Association (BNIC) on the 17th (local time). Sales volume also rose by 16% to 223.2 million bottles.
In a statement, BNIC said, "Compared to 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic, Cognac sales have increased," adding, "With the emergence of new consumption habits enjoying Cognac, the Cognac market is showing a substantial recovery."
In particular, sales in China, the world's second-largest Cognac consumer, surged. Chinese sales increased by 56%, with shipments reaching 34 million bottles.

Sales in the United States, the world's largest Cognac market, rose by 11%. Shipments to the U.S. reached 115 million bottles. European sales also increased by 8%, reaching 37.1 million bottles.
