President Moon attends Korea Day at Dubai Expo... Commitment to hosting the '2030 Expo'
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] President Moon Jae-in, visiting the United Arab Emirates (UAE), attended the 'Korea Day' event held at the Dubai Expo on the 16th (local time), strengthening the 'special strategic partnership' between the two countries and expressing a strong commitment to hosting the 2030 Busan World Expo.
In his on-site speech, President Moon stated, "The Dubai Expo is providing great inspiration to Korea, which aims to host the 2030 Busan Expo," adding, "The Busan Expo shares the goals pursued by the Dubai Expo."
President Moon highlighted that the Dubai Expo constructed its thematic pavilions using eco-friendly technologies and planned to utilize 80% of the facilities post-expo to create a smart city, emphasizing, "The UAE's efforts to practice environmental sustainability inspire people worldwide as we enter the post-COVID era."
He said, "Korea will practice solidarity, cooperation, inclusion, and coexistence from the preparation process of the Expo," and expressed his hope to "meet again in 2030 in Busan, Korea's maritime capital, to embark together on the bold voyage of the 'Great Transformation of the World,'" reaffirming Korea's intention to host the 2030 Busan Expo.
Regarding the Dubai Expo 'Korea Day' event, he stated, "Today, through traditional Korean dance, Taekwondo, and K-POP, we will embody the Dubai Expo's theme of 'Connecting Minds, Creating the Future,'" and added, "I hope 'Korea Day' will shine as a brilliant page in the history of the Dubai Expo's success."
'Korea Day' is a 'National Day' event held for each participating country at the World Expo. It proceeded with official speeches, cultural events, followed by a bilateral meeting with the UAE Vice President and Prime Minister, and visits to the Korean and UAE pavilions. Side events such as a K-POP concert and an exhibition of excellent Korean products were also held.

The event was attended by 50 Korean representatives, including President Moon Jae-in, ministers from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the chairman of the 2030 Busan World Expo bid committee. On the Dubai side, 50 officials including Minister Nahyan of Tolerance and Coexistence, the UAE government representative for the 2020 Dubai Expo, and Minister Al Hashimi, Special Minister for International Cooperation and Chairman of the Organizing Committee, participated.
