According to the quarantine authorities, Seoul city, and other local governments, a total of 3,015 people tested positive for COVID-19 in 17 cities and provinces nationwide from midnight to 6 p.m. This is 246 more than the 2,769 cases recorded at the same time the previous day.
The quarantine authorities expect that within 1 to 2 weeks, the Omicron variant will push out the Delta variant and become the dominant strain by the end of this month, which may lead to an increase in confirmed cases again.
On this day, 1,921 new cases were reported in the metropolitan area, and 1,094 cases in non-metropolitan areas. In terms of ratio, the metropolitan area accounted for 63.7%, about twice as many as the 36.3% in non-metropolitan areas.
Confirmed cases were reported in all 17 cities and provinces. Specifically, Gyeonggi 901, Seoul 779, Incheon 241, Gwangju 196, Busan 124, Gangwon 117, Gyeongnam 97, Jeonnam 96, Chungnam 95, Gyeongbuk 92, Daegu 81, Chungbuk 54, Jeonbuk 52, Daejeon 45, Ulsan 36, Jeju 5, and Sejong 4.
