[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] At around 12:30 PM on the 13th, a formwork on the first floor collapsed at a new apartment construction site in Sandong-eup, Gumi-si, Gyeongbuk. However, since the accident occurred during lunchtime, there were no casualties.
The accident happened when a formwork measuring 5.7 meters in height and about 30 meters in length collapsed in the middle due to strong winds. At the time of the accident, the noise was loud, causing some residents to be startled and evacuate.
The site of the accident is where a construction company has been building an apartment complex with 1,555 households since the end of last year, and recently was installing formwork to build the first floor on top of a pilotis structure.
Gumi City explained that strong winds were blowing in the Gumi area that day, and especially strong gusts were blowing at the accident site. According to the Daegu Regional Meteorological Administration, at around 12:16 PM, a strong wind with a maximum instantaneous speed of 15.7 meters per second blew near Sandong-eup, Gumi-si.
