Visit to 5G Fronthaul Supplier HFR
[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on the 13th that Minister Lim Hye-sook visited the mid-sized company HFR to encourage 5G export companies.
This visit aimed to encourage companies that contributed to achieving high export records last year and to explore support policies for activating 5G convergence services needed on-site.
HFR, which supplies 5G front-haul, was selected as a 5G front-haul supplier by U.S. carriers Verizon and AT&T in November last year. Last year's overseas export amount also soared to 110 billion KRW, about ten times compared to the previous year.
On the day, Minister Lim visited HFR's 5G module and equipment research and development (R&D) site located in Anyang, Gyeonggi Province, and demonstrated the 5G specialized network (Eum5G) service. She also listened to the difficulties companies face during the export process.
Jung Jong-min, CEO of HFR, said, "Through the Ministry of Science and ICT's R&D support, we have promoted our business based on the achievements in developing 5G equipment and terminal technologies, leading to increased exports," and requested continuous government support policies.
Minister Lim Hye-sook stated, "Going forward, the Ministry of Science and ICT will actively resolve the difficulties faced by the industry through constant communication and cooperation channels with the industry so that more successful export cases of 5G companies, which play a significant role in our ICT exports, can emerge."

Meanwhile, ICT sector exports in 2021 recorded a historic high of 227.6 billion USD. The proportion of total exports of 644.5 billion USD reached 35.3%. Among them, exports by small and medium-sized enterprises and mid-sized companies in the ICT sector amounted to 54.19 billion USD, an increase of 25.5% compared to the previous year.
