On the 13th, Minister Jeong Young-ae of the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family will inspect the Youth Sexual Culture Centers and discuss the current status of service support with center staff.
Youth Sexual Culture Centers are specialized sex education institutions established and operated under the Act on the Protection of Children and Youth from Sexual Abuse, providing experiential and discussion-based sex education using various teaching aids. Currently, 57 Youth Sexual Culture Centers are operating nationwide.
The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family plans to strengthen the legal basis of the Youth Sexual Culture Centers starting this year to help them establish themselves as specialized sex education institutions within local communities.
As digital sex crime prevention education becomes urgent, an online education platform for elementary, middle, and high school students is also being established.
Previously, in 2021, the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family completely revamped sex rights education materials for elementary, middle, and high school students, considering recent issues in the child and youth sector such as media literacy improvement.
The Youth Sexual Culture Centers comply with quarantine guidelines by maintaining visitor logs, checking symptoms of users and staff, and conducting regular disinfection.
Considering social distancing, seat arrangements have been adjusted to reduce crowding in experience halls, and education methods are diversified according to quarantine situations by combining phone and online counseling.
