One Inmate at Seoul Dongbu Detention Center Tests Positive for COVID-19
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyung-min] One newly admitted inmate at Seoul Eastern Detention Center tested positive for COVID-19, prompting correctional authorities to take action.
According to the Ministry of Justice on the 12th, one new inmate who was admitted to Seoul Eastern Detention Center at the end of last month tested positive in a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test conducted before the end of a 14-day quarantine.
Accordingly, the Ministry of Justice conducted mass testing on about 50 inmates housed in the same building as the confirmed case and all staff members (about 500) at the Eastern Detention Center.
On the 11th, one staff member at the Eastern Detention Center also tested positive for COVID-19. It was confirmed that this staff member did not have contact with the inmate who tested positive on the same day.
