Jeonnam Police, Persistent Crackdown on Chronic 'Everyday Violence'
Significant Decrease in Violent Crimes and Everyday Violence Incidents
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Jeonnam police announced on the 12th that they have achieved a 12.6% decrease compared to the previous year by cracking down on chronic ‘everyday life surrounding violent crimes’ that threaten the peaceful daily lives and public order of citizens and cause anxiety and inconvenience.
During the special criminal activity period, preventive criminal activities such as strengthening patrols through analysis of vulnerable areas and time zones were conducted, and the number of night shift personnel was increased by more than 22% compared to usual, resulting in a 50% reduction in major violent crimes such as murder and robbery.
In the case of violent crimes, it was found that out of a total of 280 incidents, 121 cases, accounting for 43%, occurred in everyday surroundings such as streets, stores, entertainment, and lodging establishments.
During the period, two suspects who broke into vacant houses in rural areas of the province seven times and stole valuables worth about 30 million won were arrested and detained after persistent tracking investigations of their whereabouts and stolen goods.
Also, on New Year’s Day in broad daylight, a 68-time repeat offender who indiscriminately assaulted customers in a restaurant and caused a disturbance was arrested, and strong crackdowns were carried out on various infringement offenders around daily life.

The police announced that for repetitive and chronic violence around daily life such as ▲violent acts in public places like streets, stores, and public transportation ▲violent acts violating COVID-19 quarantine rules ▲violence against public officials at government offices and official duty sites ▲violence within closed groups such as workplaces, universities, sports circles, facilities for the disabled, and hospitals, they will establish a continuous intelligence collection system, collaborate with related functions, and conduct strong crackdowns throughout the year.
