Hanjayeon Opens 'North America R&DB Office' in Silicon Valley, USA
Promotion of North American Business Activation for Domestic Parts Companies
[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] The Korea Automotive Technology Institute announced on the 12th that it has opened the 'North America R&BD (Research and Business Development) Office' in Silicon Valley, California, USA.
KATRI plans to establish a foothold in the North American market, which is the largest export region for domestic automotive parts and leads technologies and policies related to future vehicles such as electric, hydrogen, and autonomous vehicles. The office will play a role in revitalizing North American business for domestic parts companies preparing for the future vehicle transition and promoting various support projects for this purpose.
As part of the follow-up projects to the 'Support Plan for Future Vehicle Transition of Automotive Parts Companies' announced by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the KATRI North America R&BD Office will implement customized support projects focused on technical elements to meet the diverse demands of parts companies planning or starting production of future vehicle parts and seeking global market channels.
Additionally, it will investigate and provide preliminary planning information such as advanced technology research and patent trends, and identify overseas expansion demands for parts companies participating in KATRI’s existing 'Parts Company Innovation Support Project.'
Furthermore, in line with the rapidly changing future vehicle market conditions, the office plans to support technical consulting for securing sales channels and expanding exports, including prototype production, global testing and certification linkage, and test report preparation.
Besides support projects related to parts companies, KATRI will also conduct global future vehicle industry analysis by researching various future vehicle-related systems, policies, and regulations of the U.S. government, as well as the future strategies of major global companies, and by hosting joint Korea-U.S. industry and technology cooperation seminars.
Heo Nam-yong, President of KATRI, said, "The core of future vehicle transition for parts companies is the importance of securing a global market lead. Our institute will actively support parts companies so that they can prepare for overseas expansion from the planning stage."
