View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Byunghee Park] David Sassoli, President of the European Parliament, passed away on the morning of the 11th (local time), according to the American political media outlet Politico. He was 65 years old.
A spokesperson for President Sassoli stated, "David Sassoli, President of the European Parliament, passed away at around 1:15 a.m. on the 11th at a hospital in Aviano, Italy."
The European Parliament President's office released a statement the day before, saying, "President Sassoli had been receiving treatment at a hospital since the 26th of last month due to complex symptoms caused by an immune system disorder."
President Sassoli was also treated for severe pneumonia at a hospital in Strasbourg, France, in September last year.

Originally from Italy, President Sassoli was first elected as a Member of the European Parliament in 2009, re-elected in 2014, and served as Vice-President of the European Parliament. He was elected President of the European Parliament in July 2019.
