Busan Office of Education, Focused Support for Academic Improvement of Middle and High School Students During Winter Vacation
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Duyul] The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education is operating various learning programs during the winter vacation to support the academic improvement of middle and high school students.
The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education is intensively operating ‘Learning Boost’, ‘AI-based Math Learning’, and ‘Learning Consulting’ programs during the winter vacation for middle and high school students to support learning loss and improve academic skills.
‘Learning Boost’ involves 1,872 students from 242 middle and high schools, offering subjects such as Korean, Math, English, Social Studies, and Science, along with programs to strengthen learning motivation and self-directed learning abilities.
The program is conducted in small groups to ensure basic academic skills and improve academic performance according to the learning level and students’ preferences.
It is operated in various forms tailored to student preferences and school conditions, conducted through face-to-face or blended online and offline classes.
‘AI-based Math Learning’ is operated for 1,000 students from 73 middle and high schools.
Using an AI-based program, students’ learning levels are diagnosed and adjusted, and students manage their individual learning histories and analyze problem areas by themselves.
Students solve customized math problems recommended by AI, which strengthens their motivation and improves their skills.
The Office of Education operates the AI math learning program alongside after-school classes during winter vacation, small group tutoring, and university student tutoring.
University student tutors guide the use of the AI program and manage students’ learning status daily to support their participation.
‘Learning Consulting’ is intensively conducted for 397 students from 95 general high schools.
The program provides one-on-one customized support including study method counseling, psychological and emotional support, and career and college guidance to enhance self-directed learning abilities.
It is conducted through one-on-one matching between school teachers and students, using systematic learning coaching tools such as individual counseling plans and counseling cards.
In December, the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education distributed the ‘High School CSAT-Linked Question Materials’ and the ‘2021 National Joint Academic Assessment Past Questions by Unit’ developed by the Busan Academic Assessment Research Support Group to high schools for use in after-school classes during winter vacation.
From 2022, an AI-based English learning program will also be operated for all middle and high schools.
