On the 10th (local time), the Associated Press reported that President Lopez Obrador tested positive for COVID-19. He was first diagnosed with the virus last year.
On the same day, he announced on his Twitter, "I am informing you that I have contracted COVID-19," adding, "My symptoms are mild, but I will work from my office in isolation."
During this period, Adan Augusto Lopez Hernandez, the Minister of the Interior, will serve as acting president.
President Lopez Obrador, who holds press conferences at the presidential palace every weekday at 7 a.m., said at the morning press conference, "I woke up with a hoarse throat," and added, "It seems like the flu, but I will take a COVID-19 test later."
