[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Juhee] Lee Jun-seok, leader of the People Power Party, commented on the 'unification of opposition candidates,' stating, "If the approval ratings of Ahn Cheol-soo, the presidential candidate of the People’s Party, are transferred to Yoon Seok-yeol, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party, there would be no reason to unify the candidates."
On the 10th, Lee appeared on YTN's 'News Q' and said, "Basically, much of the approval ratings transferred to candidate Ahn originally belonged to the younger generation supporters of candidate Yoon," he said.
He added, "As candidate Yoon focuses on and tries to communicate with the younger generation, naturally, the supporters who originally backed Yoon will return. If the transferred approval ratings were due to dislike of candidate Yoon, it would be difficult for those supporters to return even if Yoon unifies with candidate Ahn," he argued.
He continued, "The only way is for candidate Yoon to conduct his campaign in a way that appeals again to the younger generation, whether or not unification happens, and the party should assist in this," adding, "Before unification, what the party needs to consider is creating an opportunity for candidate Yoon to firmly rebuild his support base among the younger generation once again."
Regarding candidate Yoon’s recent pledge to abolish the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family (MOGEF), he explained, "Basically, the abolition of MOGEF has been consistently mentioned as one of the party’s strategies, so there was no major disagreement among the members," and added, "I did not specifically ask or request candidate Yoon to do this. However, with the disbandment of the election campaign committee, the environment became suitable for delivering such a message."
On the pledge of "soldiers’ monthly salary of 2 million won," Lee said, "This part reflects the candidate’s intentions more than mine," and explained, "Although the figure of 2 million won draws attention, you can think of it as guaranteeing a minimum wage level."

Regarding Ahn’s criticism asking, "If soldiers’ monthly salary is 2 million won, what about the salaries of non-commissioned officers and officers?" Lee responded, "Obviously, the low wage levels of non-commissioned officers and officers need to be adjusted," and said, "That was naturally assumed."
