Jeonnam Province Conducts On-Site Inspection in Muan Area Amid Recent COVID-19 Surge
[Muan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Jamin] Jeonnam Province inspected the on-site quarantine situation as the spread of COVID-19 in Muan has been significant since the new year, and there are concerns about the transmission of the highly contagious new Omicron variant.
According to Jeonnam Province on the 10th, 73 confirmed cases have occurred in the Muan area since the 1st, accounting for 21% of the total confirmed cases in Muan (351), showing a recent sharp increase.
The province has deployed a rapid response team and is conducting extensive epidemiological investigations including contact classification and mass testing, while also performing screening tests for the Omicron variant.
The main infection routes in the Muan area are school facilities, family and acquaintances gatherings, and contact with other regions. Many cases involved poor adherence to basic quarantine rules such as not wearing masks inside facilities, inadequate ventilation, and failure to undergo diagnostic testing due to mistaking symptoms for a common cold.
