View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Minyoung Cha] On the 9th, a broadcast service outage occurred on some channels of KT's IPTV service Olleh TV, lasting up to one hour, affecting approximately 530,000 households, which corresponds to 5.3% of KT's total 9.16 million subscribers.
According to industry sources on the 10th, from around 10:40 PM on the 9th, some regions including Seoul, Gyeongbuk, Daegu, and Busan experienced disruptions in video and audio transmission of terrestrial channels and some general programming channels.
The outage was mostly resolved by around 11:40 PM, about an hour later, but subscribers experienced inconvenience watching TV without knowing the exact cause. Numerous posts asking about the cause were found on Twitter and other online communities.
KT's internal investigation revealed that there was a problem with some equipment supplying power to the channel signal distributor device located at the Seoul headquarters. The issue with the equipment transmitting IPTV channel sources to households nationwide caused disruptions in the broadcast transmission process.
A KT official explained, "Out of the total 9.16 million subscribers, about 530,000 households were affected," adding, "More than half of the affected households had their service restored by around 10:58 PM."

However, according to the telecommunications company's terms and conditions, individual user compensation is unlikely to be provided separately. This is because the compensation criteria for damages caused by service unavailability not attributable to KT's responsibility are limited to cases where the service is unavailable continuously for 3 hours or more, or when the total monthly outage time exceeds 12 hours causing customer losses.
