On the 7th, at the sentencing hearing held at the Uijeongbu District Court, the prosecution stated, "Considering the evidence comprehensively, it is judged that Ahn was aware that the bank account balance certificate was forged," and requested the sentence accordingly.
On the other hand, Ahn’s defense attorney claimed innocence in court. The attorney said, "The defendant could not have recognized that the balance certificate was false," and added, "Any economic benefit from this was taken by Choi, not the defendant."
Ahn also, in his final statement, sobbed, "I do not understand why I have to face trial again after meeting (Choi) through some unfortunate connection, gaining no economic benefit and even serving prison time. At that time, I swear I did not know the balance certificate was forged."
Earlier, Ahn was brought to trial on charges of conspiring with Choi, the mother-in-law of candidate Yoon, to forge a bank account balance certificate showing a deposit of 34.7 billion KRW during the land purchase process in Dochon-dong, Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi Province, from April to October 2013. He is also accused of contracting and registering the land purchase under the names of his son-in-law and others.

Although Choi admitted to forging the balance certificate, she continuously claimed, "I was deceived by my accomplice Ahn," but this was not accepted. Choi is currently appealing the first trial verdict.
