The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA) announced on the 7th that a pregnant woman in her 30s who tested positive for COVID-19 gave birth on the 28th of last month, but her symptoms worsened and she was hospitalized for treatment before passing away on the 4th. The deceased had visited a medical institution in the Incheon area on the 23rd of last month to prepare for childbirth, was tested, and received a positive diagnosis the next day, the 24th, after which she was hospitalized for treatment. At the time of diagnosis, the woman was 32 weeks pregnant, had underlying health conditions, and had not been vaccinated.

The KDCA stated, "This is the first reported case of a pregnant woman dying from COVID-19 in South Korea," and added, "The route of infection is under investigation." The newborn baby tested negative for COVID-19 and has shown no symptoms so far.
