Yoon Seok-yeol Approval Rating Surpasses Ahn Cheol-soo
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] In opinion polls conducted since the second week of December last year, support for Yoon Seok-yeol, the People Power Party's presidential candidate, dropped sharply, while Ahn Cheol-soo, the People's Party candidate, rose to double-digit support. Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party's presidential candidate, maintained his lead with unchanged support.
According to a survey by Gallup Korea conducted from the 4th to the 6th of this month targeting 1,002 people nationwide aged 18 and over (with a margin of error of ±3.1% at a 95% confidence level), Lee received 36%, Yoon 26%, and Ahn 15% support.
Ahn's rise in support was notable. This survey was conducted during a period of internal strife within the People Power Party, including the resignation of former election committee chairman Kim Jong-in and the push for a no-confidence motion against representative Lee Jun-seok. Yoon's support fell by 9 percentage points from 35% in the previous survey (December 14-16, 2021).
In contrast, Ahn benefited from this and his support surged by 10 percentage points from 5% to 15%.
In favorability ratings, Ahn ranked first with 38%, followed by Lee at 36% and Yoon at 25%.
Gallup Korea analyzed, "Compared to the survey in the third week of November last year, Ahn's favorability increased by 13 percentage points, while Yoon's decreased by 12 percentage points."
