Why Eastar Air Flight Attendants Visit T'way Air as a Group
Over 130 People Begin Training from the 17th
Unusual Training Through Other Companies' Crew Members
Flight attendants affiliated with Eastar Jet will receive flight operation training through the T'way Air training center. There are reactions that it is unusual for flight attendants of a domestic airline to be trained by another airline's training staff, excluding their parent company.
According to the aviation industry on the 7th, about 130 Eastar Jet flight attendants will receive flight operation training at the T'way Air training center starting from the 17th.
Flight operation training includes essential courses for flying such as emergency evacuation drills, fire suppression, first aid, and cabin service, which must be completed within a certain period at an institution approved by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. Eastar Jet must complete this training to resume operations, and new flight attendants undergo about two months of training.
Eastar Jet has recently been negotiating related programs with T'way Air and is currently coordinating specific schedules. Considering COVID-19 prevention measures and practical training environments, the plan is to divide trainees into groups of about 25 on average. Through this training program, Eastar Jet intends to cultivate assistant flight attendants who can conduct in-house training in the future.
The T'way Air training center, located at the international cargo terminal of Gimpo Airport, has a total floor area of 5,300㎡ (approximately 1,600 pyeong) and is equipped with cabin safety training facilities and service education spaces covering about 500 pyeong. Training is possible in a facility identical to the Boeing 737-800 model owned by Eastar Jet, allowing education to be conducted as if in real situations.
Separately, about 70 pilots affiliated with Eastar Jet are also expected to begin training as early as this month. They will receive training through a specialized flight operation simulator company. However, Eastar Jet must obtain provisional approval for the Air Operator Certificate (AOC) from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to proceed with the scheduled training, and it is expected that approval will be expedited by mid-month.

An aviation industry official said, "Eastar Jet has been unable to conduct its own flight attendant training due to a long period of suspension," adding, "Considering that training standards vary slightly among airlines, receiving training at another airline's training center is a rare situation in the industry."
