The People Power Party's Uijeongbu Gap and Eul Party Member Councils and affiliated city council members issued a statement on the 6th urging withdrawal, stating, "On December 22, Mayor Ahn Byung-yong of Uijeongbu signed a 'secret agreement' with the Seoul Mayor and Nowon District Mayor to attract the 'Dobong Driver's License Test Center' to Jangam-dong, Uijeongbu."
They claimed, "This agreement, which completely excluded the citizens who are the owners of Uijeongbu, is 'null and void from the outset,' and although we demanded its prompt withdrawal, Mayor Ahn Byung-yong has continued his 'non-communicative administration' by ignoring citizens' opinions."
They added, "There are rumors that this agreement arose from political deals and collusion ahead of this year's Gyeonggi Province Superintendent of Education election, or that it was intended for internal power dynamics or position improvement," emphasizing, "If true, this is a serious matter that could constitute election law violations or breach of trust by neglecting regional interests."
They stressed, "'Dobong Driver's License Test Center' is a facility that Seoul City has been desperately trying to offload to other local governments for decades, and it is a facility opposed by both residents and the council in Namyangju City."
They also pressured Mayor Ahn, saying, "We demand that Mayor Ahn clearly disclose the facts regarding whether local politicians and influential external politicians were involved in this agreement process."
They stated, "Uijeongbu already has the 'Geumo Driver's License Test Center' for residents, so we cannot help but ask who this facility is for," and urged, "The act of selling Uijeongbu's future for politicians must stop immediately," reiterating their call for withdrawal.
In particular, they warned, "If the relocation agreement is not immediately withdrawn, we clearly state that all political, legal, and administrative responsibilities for any subsequent incidents will be held accountable," and declared, "We will commence all actions to withdraw the relocation agreement together with civic groups sharing the will of Uijeongbu residents."
Earlier, on the 22nd of last month, Uijeongbu City signed a 'Co-growth and Win-win Development Support Agreement' with Seoul City, Nowon District, and others, focusing on relocating the Dobong Driver's License Test Center, which spans approximately 67,000㎡ near the Changdong Vehicle Base, to Jangam-dong, Uijeongbu.
