Regional Available Power Capacity Can Now Be Checked
KEPCO Builds Open System... Provides Nationwide Supply Status Information
[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Haeyoung] Companies planning to build facilities with high electricity consumption, such as data centers, will now be able to formulate investment plans by understanding regional power supply surplus information from the conceptual stage.
Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) announced on the 7th that it has established and published on its website the "Power Supply Surplus Information Disclosure System," which allows users to check regional power supply surplus information.
This system provides information on power supply surplus capacity and regional surplus status for 83 nationwide 345kV substations. It consists of the "Power Supply Surplus Map," which shows nationwide and regional surplus information, and the "Substation Supply Surplus Information" with an address search function. The goal is to provide accurate and transparent power supply surplus information to electricity users to promote the dispersion of power demand.
Accordingly, companies planning to install facilities with high electricity consumption can use this system to check power supply conditions and optimal location information from the investment planning stage.
South Korea is not connected to neighboring countries' power grids, and there is a regional imbalance between power demand and generation facilities, increasing the burden of reinforcing the power grid for stable power supply. If large-scale power demand facilities such as data centers are additionally established in the metropolitan area in the future, the power supply-demand imbalance between the metropolitan and non-metropolitan areas is expected to worsen.
KEPCO plans to provide accurate and transparent power supply surplus information to prospective power users through this system and to induce voluntary dispersion of concentrated power demand in specific regions.
