UN Secretary-General Urges Diplomatic Dialogue with North Korea over 'Ballistic Missile Launch'
[Asia Economy Reporter Seulgina Jo] Ant?nio Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN), urged North Korea to resume diplomatic talks after launching its first ballistic missile of the year.
UN spokesperson St?phane Dujarric stated at a briefing held at the UN headquarters in New York on the 5th (local time) that Secretary-General Guterres made these remarks regarding North Korea's ballistic missile launch.
Dujarric said, "Secretary-General Guterres once again emphasized that North Korea should resume talks with other relevant parties," adding, "Such diplomatic engagement and dialogue are the only ways to achieve sustainable peace on the Korean Peninsula and complete, verifiable denuclearization."
The previous day, North Korea fired one suspected ballistic missile into the East Sea. On the 6th, North Korea's Korean Central News Agency claimed that the ballistic missile was a hypersonic missile and that it hit the target set at 700 km without error.

Countries including the United States condemned North Korea's ballistic missile as a clear threat to the international community. A US State Department spokesperson responded to domestic media inquiries, "This launch violates multiple UN Security Council resolutions," and urged "North Korea to engage in dialogue."
