Lotte Entertainment Attracts 12 Million Viewers Since the Pandemic
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Isul] Lotte Entertainment attracted over 12 million viewers by releasing eight films since the pandemic, including 'Mogadishu,' which recorded the highest box office performance for a Korean film last year.
On the 5th, Lotte Entertainment announced that this year it will showcase major tentpole works such as 'Pirates: Goblin Flag' and 'Hansan: Rising Dragon,' as well as IP expansion projects like 'Concrete Utopia,' 'Confession,' and uniquely genre-distinctive titles including 'Life is Beautiful,' 'Sacred Night: Demon Hunters,' and 'Streaming.'
Lotte also stated, "In addition to films, we are expanding our business into various areas such as performances, dramas, and new media content (mid-form and short-form), steadily establishing ourselves as a comprehensive content company."
Since starting its performance business in 2006, Lotte has invested in productions like 'Cats,' 'Man of La Mancha,' 'The Lion King,' and 'Jekyll & Hyde,' staging over 7,000 performances.
In 2021, they strengthened their drama production capabilities by recruiting PD Kwak Jeong-hwan to the drama business division, and in the first half of 2022, their first planned and developed drama, 'Thirty-Nine,' is scheduled to air on JTBC.
Furthermore, they are actively pursuing new businesses and planning new media content based on digital distribution. Their first mid-form work, tentatively titled 'Concrete Market,' and the fresh horror genre short-form content '4 Minutes 44 Seconds' completed filming in 2021.

Lotte Entertainment has been hosting the Lotte Creative Contest, which discovers talented writers and supports content, for a total of 10 editions since 2012. In addition to the existing film screenplay category, they newly established the new media content category in 2020 and the drama category in 2021. The 10th contest in 2021 received a record-high 1,755 submissions.
