[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-ju] The police, which faced controversy over ‘poor response,’ will conduct practical training from the first new police officer training session of the new year. The time allocated for arrest, shooting, vehicle, and safety training for field response, as well as comprehensive case training to strengthen response capabilities for specific types of incidents, has been significantly increased.
The 310th class of 2,367 trainees entering the Central Police Academy on the 8th will receive 226 hours of field response training, which is 92 hours more than the 134 hours of the previous 309th class. Arrest techniques training will be repeated five times a week, and repeated practice on the use of essential equipment for local police such as handcuffs, expandable batons, shields, tasers, and pistols will also be conducted. Shooting training includes six practice shooting sessions (five with 38 pistols and one with K2 rifles), two evaluation shootings, as well as field shooting exercises such as moving shooting, stress shooting, and shooting at various distances.
Comprehensive case training will be 198 hours, an increase of 96 hours compared to the previous class (102 hours). It will be composed of field-based comprehensive cases, and all trainees will participate in outdoor practical training to provide education similar to real situations. Training will cover 45 cases across nine types including dealing with intoxicated persons, wind speed business, domestic violence, illegal assemblies and disasters, traffic violation enforcement, inter-floor noise, phishing, violent crimes, and serious crimes. The ‘Incheon inter-floor noise stabbing incident,’ which was the starting point of the poor response controversy, is included as one of the training cases. Trainees will wear equipment such as firearms, tasers, vehicles, and bulletproof vests and comprehensively experience blank gunfire and live taser use in an environment identical to actual incident scenes.
