Non-face-to-face culture and methods to enhance customer convenience are being developed. This is the acceleration of so-called golf digital innovation. A representative example is ‘self check-in.’ The golf reservation platform ‘Kakao Golf Reservation’ has been implementing a self check-in service since November last year. When a reservation holder sends an invitation to their companions before the round, they can check in via the app upon arrival at the clubhouse on the day of the round and receive a golf course locker number.
The usage method is simple. When entering within 1 km of the golf course, users allow location information access permission on the app. By touching the check-in screen, self check-in can be completed in just 3 seconds. If users do not want to allow location information access permission, they can also check in using ‘palm recognition’ or ‘QR code’ through a tablet provided at the clubhouse. ROUTE52CC, located in Yeoju, Gyeonggi Province, saw the self check-in usage rate rise to as high as 91% per day.
Instead of the procedure of visiting the front desk at the clubhouse to check in and receive a locker number, the process is conveniently done via mobile. On average, 80% of customers use self check-in daily. ROUTE52CC, which stated that "both customers and staff satisfaction has increased since implementing self check-in," explained the advantages by saying, "It shortens waiting times and minimizes face-to-face contact," and "Smart technology allows for more relaxed preparation for the round."

In the COVID-19 era, the smartification of golf courses is expected to receive even more attention. Comfortable services that satisfy both customers and golf courses are being provided. In addition to the self check-in service, self check-out including automatic payment for green fees and food and beverages is being prepared. Furthermore, smart management systems capable of score recording and sharing will be introduced sequentially. Now, golf courses are entering the full-fledged era of unmanned automation.
