Prosecutors Indict and Detain Suspects in 'Eunsu-mi Camp Illegal Hiring' Allegations
[Asia Economy Reporter Bae Kyunghwan] The prosecution has sent two key suspects to trial in custody over allegations of irregular recruitment of volunteer workers at Mayor Eun Su-mi's Seongnam election campaign.
On the 4th, the Suwon District Prosecutors' Office Seongnam Branch announced that it had indicted Mr. A, a former member of Mayor Eun's election campaign, and Mr. B, a Seongnam city employee, on charges of obstruction of official duties.
They are accused of being involved in the irregular recruitment of seven volunteer workers from Mayor Eun's election campaign as public service workers in the municipal Seohyeon Library at the end of 2018. At that time, a total of 15 public service positions were recruited, and seven volunteer workers passed through a competition rate of 26 to 1, causing controversy.

The first trial for Mr. A and Mr. B will be held on the 17th at the Suwon District Court Seongnam Branch, Criminal Division 11, presided over by a single judge. The Anti-Corruption and Economic Crime Investigation Unit of the Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency, which transferred the case to the prosecution, plans to investigate Mayor Eun as well.
