What Elderly People Rely on Most? ... Changnyeong-gun, First in Province to Supply Wall Chairs to Senior Centers
280 Million Won Allocated, 401 Locations to Be Installed by the End of February
Gyeongnam Changnyeong-gun will implement a wall chair support project for all senior centers in the region.
View original image[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Intern Reporter Lee Seryeong] Changnyeong-gun, Gyeongnam Province, has decided to provide wall chairs to all senior centers to alleviate the inconvenience experienced by elderly users. For the elderly, sitting on the floor and standing up can put strain on their bodies.
On the 4th, Changnyeong-gun announced that it will support wall chairs in all senior centers in the region to reduce the inconvenience for elderly users.
The "Senior Center Wall Chair Support Project" is the first project of its kind implemented by Changnyeong-gun in Gyeongnam Province. It aims to protect the spine and knee joints of the elderly and ease the difficulties of floor-sitting lifestyles.
The county allocated 280 million KRW in the main budget for this project. After surveying the installation spaces and structures of 401 senior centers, they plan to distribute the chairs to all centers by the end of February.
The wall chairs will be custom-made sofas for 1 to 3 persons, designed according to the structure of each senior center, considering the safety and convenience of the elderly.
County Governor Han Jeong-woo decided to promote this project after observing many elderly people who could not sit on the floor for long due to old age and joint diseases during the 2021 COVID-19 senior center field inspection conducted in July last year.
While TVs, refrigerators, and air conditioners were included in the regular support items for senior centers, chairs and sofas were not listed, so villages either purchased them independently or received sponsorship from local philanthropists.
