Gwangju Nambu Fire Station Urges Fire Safety Management in Apartment Complexes
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Gwangju Nambu Fire Station (Chief Lee Jeong-ja) urged thorough safety management of apartment complexes on the 4th, as the risk of fires and accidents increases during the winter season.
According to statistics from the National Fire Agency, over the past five years (2016?2020), there have been 24,604 apartment complex fires nationwide, resulting in 2,410 casualties (308 deaths, 2,102 injuries) and property damage amounting to 99.6 billion KRW.
Since apartment complexes are spaces where many people reside, the rate of casualties in fires is high, and when a fire occurs in another unit, failure to recognize it early can lead to greater damage.
Additionally, in most households, there is a lack of knowledge on how to use evacuation facilities such as apartment lightweight partitions, leading to cases where items are piled up in evacuation routes, obstructing escape.
In response, Nambu Fire Station is providing apartment residents with guidance on ▲ how to use evacuation facilities ▲ sending notices for fire prevention in apartment complexes ▲ distributing safety pictograms.
