Gwangyang City Receives 'Excellence Award' in Jeollanam-do Regional Informatization Sector
ICT Innovation Square Recognized for Regional Informatization Achievements Including Smart Town Challenge Project
Secured 8.19 Billion KRW in National Funding Through Public Competitions, Leading Adoption of New E-Government Technologies
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seonsik] Gwangyang City, Jeollanam-do announced on the 3rd that it received the Excellent Institution Award in the regional informatization category in the informatization policy and information communication evaluation conducted by Jeollanam-do in 2021 on December 31.
As a result of evaluating three informatization categories for 22 cities and counties in Jeollanam-do, ▲Gwangyang City (regional informatization) ▲Hwasun County (informatization village) ▲Jangheung County (administration and public websites) were selected as excellent institutions.
In this evaluation, Gwangyang City received high scores by securing 8.19 billion KRW in national funds through participation in informatization contest projects such as the establishment and operation of Jeonnam ICT Innovation Square (5.5 billion KRW in national funds), Smart Town Challenge Project (2 billion KRW in national funds), support for commercialization of local SW services (490 million KRW in national funds), and public data contest project (200 million KRW in national funds).
In particular, the recently opened Jeonnam ICT Innovation Square (inside Gwangyang Community Center) serves as a Jeonnam hub that offers free education in artificial intelligence and blockchain software, equipped with infrastructure such as training rooms and project rooms for nurturing digital talents. It plans to train about 1,000 specialized software talents in the 4th Industrial Revolution within the province by 2023.
Lee Juok, Director of the Information and Communication Division, said, “We will continue to proactively apply for informatization contest projects to lead the introduction of new e-government technologies and become a hub for digital innovation cities such as the 4th Industrial Revolution, contributing to the establishment of a smart city foundation.”
