According to the Paju Police Station on May 13, at around 1:20 p.m. on May 4, Police Officer Kim Jisu of the Unjeong Lake District Police Station was cycling as a hobby and passing through the Hangju Bridge when he noticed a woman, identified as Ms. A, who appeared to be in a precarious state at the midpoint of the bridge.
Ms. A was sitting in front of the railing of Hangju Bridge, looking down at the river below. Based on his experience, Officer Kim judged that she might be attempting to jump, so he approached her, started a conversation, and guided her to a safer location.
During their conversation, Officer Kim learned that Ms. A had been struggling with various difficulties, including family issues, for a long period, and had a history of previous suicide attempts. Determining that there was a continued risk, Officer Kim called 112 and handed Ms. A over to responding officers so that appropriate safety measures could be taken.
