Resigned Shin Ji-ye: "What did Lee Jun-seok do... He mocked me and led the 'Yoon Fool-Making'"
"Isn't it going up and down every day due to the sexual bribery controversy?"
Yoon Seok-yeol, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party, held a welcoming ceremony for Shin Ji-ye, the head of the Korean Women's Political Network, who joined as the senior vice chairman of the New Era Preparation Committee, at the New Era Preparation Committee office in Yeouido, Seoul, on the 20th of last month. / Photo by Yonhap News
View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Na Ye-eun] Shin Ji-ye, Senior Vice Chairperson of the New Era Preparation Committee under the People Power Party’s Central Election Countermeasures Committee, voluntarily resigned on the 3rd. During this process, Shin strongly criticized Lee Jun-seok, the leader of the People Power Party, with whom she had ongoing conflicts.
On the same day (the 3rd), Shin announced her resignation intention through her Facebook. She stated, "I joined the New Era Preparation Committee on December 20th with the sole determination to achieve a regime change. I believed that we must prevent the group that committed power-type sexual violence and repeatedly engaged in secondary victimization from regaining power."
She continued, "In the progressive camp, I was called a traitor, and in the conservative camp, I was not welcomed as a feminist. However, with the single belief in achieving regime change, I quietly continued my support activities for candidate Yoon Seok-yeol." She added, "I thought we should no longer be deceived by those who, despite being granted 180 seats by the people, make no reforms and put in no effort."
Shin explained the reason for her resignation just two weeks after joining the New Era Committee. She said, "The strongest resistance to me, who came to support candidate Yoon Seok-yeol, was inside the People Power Party. The pressure to resign continued. Lee Jun-seok’s ridicule, telling me 'Don’t do useless things, just stay quiet,' also persisted," she criticized.
She then questioned, "They say Yoon Seok-yeol’s support decline is all because of me. They say that the support from the 2030 generation for candidate Yoon plummeted because of one person, Shin Ji-ye. Is that really true?"
She directly challenged Lee Jun-seok, saying, "I ask Lee Jun-seok, what have you been doing all this time? Didn’t you storm out in protest against the Supreme Council members and have been in the media daily over the sexual bribery controversy? Is the person who tells candidate Yoon, elected by party members and the people, 'Don’t campaign, just stay quiet,' really the party leader?"
Shin also stated, "The Democratic Party is leading the effort to make candidate Yoon Seok-yeol look foolish. It’s the same tactic they used against candidate Ahn Cheol-soo in the last presidential election, calling him 'MB’s avatar.' Lee Jun-seok fueled this operation. Does he really think candidate Yoon should just stay quiet?"
