Despite Challenges Such as Semiconductor Supply Shortages, Total Sales Expanded by 6.5% Last Year
[Asia Economy Reporter Yu Je-hoon] Despite challenges such as the global shortage of automotive semiconductors last year, Kia sold approximately 2.77 million vehicles worldwide, marking about a 6% increase compared to the previous year. Kia plans to raise its sales target to 3.15 million units this year, focusing on supply chain management and electrification.
On the 3rd, Kia announced that it sold a total of 2,777,056 vehicles based on wholesale sales in domestic and overseas markets last year. This represents a 6.5% increase compared to the previous year. Globally, the Sportage was the best-selling model with 363,630 units sold, followed by the Seltos (298,737 units) and the K3 (240,627 units).
In the domestic market, sales decreased by 3.1% year-on-year to 535,016 units. The Carnival led domestic sales with 73,503 units, followed by the Sorento (69,934 units) and Bongo3 (59,729 units).
Among passenger car models, a total of 208,503 units were sold, with the K5 leading at 59,499 units, followed by the K8 (46,741 units) and the Ray (35,956 units). For RV models, in addition to the Carnival and Sorento, 264,198 units were sold, including the Seltos (40,090 units) and Sportage (39,762 units).
Overseas sales increased by 9.1% to 2,242,040 units. The Sportage led with 323,868 units sold, followed by the Seltos (258,647 units) and the Pride (219,958 units).
Meanwhile, Kia plans to drive sales growth this year by minimizing the impact of semiconductor shortages through supply risk management and optimized production, strengthening its electrified lineup, and achieving full operation at its India plant by switching to a three-shift work system. The specific sales targets are 562,000 units domestically and 2,588,000 units overseas, totaling 3.15 million units.
