Connecting Europe and Busan Logistics... Busan Port Authority Begins Full Operation of Rotterdam Logistics Center
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Trainee Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] Busan Port Authority (BPA) has successfully completed the construction of a logistics center in the hinterland of the Port of Rotterdam, the gateway port of Europe, and will begin operations on the 3rd.
BPA has provided a long-term and stable logistics platform for Korean companies entering Europe and strengthened Busan Port's global port competitiveness by expanding the logistics network with the Port of Rotterdam.
The Rotterdam logistics center, which began construction in January 2021, completed local final inspections on schedule without cost increases or construction delays despite difficulties in material supply caused by the spread of COVID-19 and logistics disruptions in Europe.
To conduct a pre-operation inspection of the logistics center, which spans 30,000㎡, BPA prepared for stable operation by temporarily storing cargo departing from Busan Port at the Port of Rotterdam.
The BPA Rotterdam logistics center operates and provides a bonded area within the center, allowing companies using the logistics center to store cargo in the bonded area until the final sale of goods, enabling more efficient inventory management.
Samsung SDS, responsible for operating the logistics center, provides a Cello portal system for cargo owners, enabling real-time inventory inquiry and verification for user companies, and has established security facilities meeting the standards of the Transported Asset Protection Association (TAPA), including perimeter fences, CCTV, and intrusion alarm devices.
BPA offers shared office spaces free of charge for Korean small and medium-sized enterprises and mid-sized companies newly entering the European market, with a three-story office building covering an area of 500㎡.
The authority plans to promptly respond to requests for resolving difficulties faced by Korean companies using the logistics center in entering the European market, thereby building trust with logistics center customers.
