Amid ongoing COVID-19 and major upcoming issues such as the presidential and local elections, he expressed his determination to maintain stable public safety through the advancement of police activities.
At a press briefing on the 3rd, Commissioner Choi stated, "The public's desire for a safe community during the pandemic is becoming increasingly sophisticated, and the quality of demands is deepening," adding, "This year requires a particularly strong sense of responsibility and readiness to handle public safety burdens more than any other."
Commissioner Choi specifically emphasized his commitment to firmly establishing police reform tasks such as investigations and the autonomous police system. He said, "If last year we made basic efforts to settle staff related to investigative authority in the field, now we will further enhance the completeness of each investigation to earn public trust," and added, "We plan to take maximum measures within the allowable scope to supplement the necessary personnel." The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency plans to strengthen personnel and investigative capabilities through organizational diagnosis.
Additionally, regarding the autonomous police, the focus will be on discovering policies that citizens can feel directly. Commissioner Choi explained, "This year, we intend to show the face of the autonomous police to citizens," and "We will accelerate the implementation of autonomous police policies that citizens can experience, such as last year's 'Our Neighborhood Traffic Inconvenience Reporting System'."
