A cold wave advisory has been issued for the central inland and Gyeongbuk inland areas, where temperatures will fall below minus 10 degrees Celsius.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, as of 7 a.m., the morning low temperatures are Seoul -7.7°C, Chuncheon -13.1°C, Suwon -8.5°C, Incheon -7°C, Andong -9°C, Daejeon -7.6°C, Daegu -6.1°C, Jeonju -5.5°C, Gwangju -3.8°C, and Busan 1.1°C. The daytime high temperatures are expected to range from 1 to 9 degrees Celsius.
The KMA advised, "Elderly people with weak immunity should refrain from outdoor activities as much as possible, and outdoor workers such as those at screening clinics should pay attention to maintaining body temperature," adding, "Please be cautious of fires when using heating devices such as stoves and electric blankets."
Due to recent heavy snowfall accumulating mainly in Gangwon Yeongdong and the mountainous areas of Jeju Island, temperatures will rise during the day causing snow to melt, but as temperatures drop below freezing at night, icy roads or frozen surfaces may appear, so caution is advised when driving.
From the night of the 3rd, there will be light snow less than 0.1 cm in the metropolitan area and inland and mountainous areas of Gangwon. In the Chungcheong region, Jeonbuk, and western inland Gyeongbuk, snow is expected between midnight and 6 a.m. on the 4th. Ulleungdo and Dokdo will experience rain or snow starting from the afternoon of the 4th, with expected snowfall less than 1 cm.
Dryness advisories are currently in effect for Gangwon Yeongdong, the Gyeongsang region, parts of southern Chungbuk, and eastern Jeonnam. The atmosphere is very dry and winds are somewhat strong, so special caution is required for various fires such as wildfires and house fires.
