According to the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education on the 2nd, the number of children eligible for elementary school enrollment in Seoul for the 2022 academic year is 70,442, which is 696 fewer than the previous year. The preliminary enrollment meetings will be held both in-person and online, and guardians and children must submit the enrollment notification form distributed at the community center to the school and complete the enrollment registration.
As in the previous year, to expand opportunities for working couples and others to participate in the preliminary enrollment, the meetings will be held twice on weekdays from 4 PM to 8 PM.
It is a principle that children eligible for elementary school enrollment and their guardians visit the elementary school they plan to attend in person. Considering the COVID-19 spread situation and social distancing levels, the child's location and safety will be confirmed through in-person verification or non-face-to-face methods such as online preliminary enrollment, video calls, or submission of daycare or kindergarten attendance certificates.
If it is unavoidable to miss the preliminary enrollment meeting, guardians can contact the school where the child will enroll before the meeting date to register separately. If enrollment is difficult due to unavoidable reasons such as illness or developmental status, guardians can apply for enrollment exemption or deferral at the school where the child will enroll.
The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education will actively cooperate with support offices, individual schools, local governments, and the police during the preliminary enrollment period to thoroughly confirm the location and safety of children eligible for enrollment. For children who do not respond to the preliminary enrollment, all possible methods such as phone calls, home visits, and school visit requests will be utilized. If confirmation is difficult, an investigation will be requested from the local police station to verify the child's status.
