[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Sumi] The Democratic Party of Korea has raised allegations that Kim Gun-hee, wife of the People Power Party’s presidential candidate Yoon Seok-yeol, falsified her academic background at Korea University Graduate School of Media.
There is a possibility that she falsified her credentials not only in the Seoul National University Cultural Contents Global Leader (GLA) program but also in the Korea University Graduate School of Media’s executive program.
The Democratic Party’s Election Countermeasures Committee’s Task Force (TF) for Current Issues Response released a statement on the 2nd, saying, "According to the list of graduates of the executive program posted on the official website of Korea University Graduate School of Media, Kim Gun-hee appears to have completed the 30th executive program from September 2008 to February 2009 while holding the position of Vice President at H Culture Technology."
Previously, although Kim was registered as an auditor on the company registry of H Culture from the company’s establishment until November 2006, she entered the Seoul National University GLA program in 2006 under the title of ‘Planning Director’ at H Culture, raising suspicions of falsified career history.
In addition, the Democratic Party points out that she may have again presented false credentials by attending Korea University Graduate School of Media under the title of ‘Vice President.’
Kim Byung-gi, head of the TF, stated, "What is the truth about Kim’s career at H Culture?" He added, "If her career is not factual or if certificates were forged, this could constitute crimes such as fraud, forgery of private documents, and obstruction of business. Therefore, a thorough investigation by law enforcement agencies is necessary to clarify the truth and ensure strict punishment for any wrongdoing."
Regarding H Culture, the TF described it as a "tool for building credentials," pointing out, "Some media outlets have raised forgery suspicions due to discrepancies in the employment dates and formats on the certificates of employment at H Culture submitted to various schools during her application for adjunct professor positions, as well as errors in the Chinese characters used."
The TF explained that the employment dates on the certificates Kim submitted to Polytech University in June 2006 and Suwon Women’s University in December of the same year were December 2, 2004, and December 2, 2003, respectively, with 2003 being before the company’s establishment date (April 11, 2004).

Furthermore, the TF criticized the People Power Party’s explanation regarding Kim’s alleged falsification of credentials.
Previously, the People Power Party explained that "Kim recorded the contents from the company’s promotional portfolio as they were while she was serving as Vice President," but the TF rebutted, "According to Article 411 of the Commercial Act, ‘an auditor shall not concurrently hold the position of director, manager, or other employee of the company or its subsidiaries.’"
They pointed out, "Therefore, the People Power Party’s claim that Kim was serving as Vice President at the time cannot be accepted."

The TF added, "It is very regrettable that Kim and the People Power Party have consistently ignored calls to disclose documents such as health insurance qualification certificates, national pension enrollment records, and salary payment accounts, which could quickly resolve the suspicions, and selectively choose whether to apologize or explain."
