Changes in 2022
[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Joo Sang-don] The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will begin issuing next-generation electronic passports of the polycarbonate (PC) type, which offer enhanced security and durability, to the general public.
On the 31st, the government published a guide titled "Changes Starting from 2022" containing this information.
Polycarbonate is a type of plastic known for its durability, impact resistance, and heat resistance. Since it is laser-engraved, security is enhanced, leading to increased use in recent passports.
The next-generation electronic passport features improvements such as ▲color change of the cover (green → navy blue), increased number of visa pages, ▲use of Korean cultural heritage in the design, ▲exclusion of resident registration numbers, changes to the passport number system, ▲introduction of a PC-type personal information page, and application of various latest security elements.
