Realizing Students' Dreams with Future Schools... Ulsan Office of Education Establishes Dedicated Department for Green Smart Future Schools
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Trainee Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education will establish the Green Smart Future School Promotion Team as of January 1 next year and will actively promote the 'Green Smart Future School' project.
The Green Smart Future School Promotion Team is a dedicated department for the Green Smart Future School project, which creates user-centered future-oriented school spaces.
It operates directly under the Deputy Superintendent and consists of a Future School Planning Team and a Future School Promotion Team, with a total of 14 members including the team leader.
The team is responsible for planning and selecting Green Smart Future Schools, preliminary planning, design, construction, supervision, managing a pool of experts, on-site support and capacity-building training, as well as operating committees and policy councils.
The Green Smart Future School project is a future-oriented school creation initiative that improves classroom environments in schools over 40 years old and equips them with digital environment-based teaching equipment to promote innovation in teaching and learning.
The future schools operate on the principle of user participation, including students, faculty, parents, and local residents, allowing school members to propose and create spaces and facilities through their own decision-making.
The Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education plans to develop a total of 31 schools into schools of "dream, competence, solidarity, and coexistence for sustainable future education" by 2025.
School selection was conducted through a public contest targeting schools over 40 years old, with comprehensive consideration of school levels and regional balance. The required budget is approximately 360 billion KRW.
The Ulsan-style (D·A·U·M) Green Smart Future School project aims to create a "happy future school where everyone grows together" by incorporating four core elements.
The core elements are space innovation for realizing students' dreams, ICT-based smart classrooms that cultivate future societal competencies, school facility complexification connecting schools and local communities, and green schools as sustainable environmental ecological education spaces.
The project plans to proceed with 7 schools in 2022, 5 schools in 2023, 5 schools in 2024, and 6 schools in 2025 sequentially.
The 2022 project budget is 67.1 billion KRW, and it plans to carry out complete reconstruction projects for Nongsu Middle School, Jujeon Elementary School, and Cheongnyang Middle School, as well as remodeling projects for Hamwol Elementary School, Yaksajung Middle School, Hakseong Middle School, and Meari School by the end of 2024.
