Four High School Students from Gyeongnam Awarded 'Talent of the Republic of Korea'
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kang Saerom] The Gyeongnam Office of Education announced on the 29th that four high school students from the Gyeongnam region received the ‘2021 Korea Talent Award.’
The ‘Korea Talent Award’ is a talent development program that discovers talents in various fields to lead future society, awarding the Minister of Education’s Award and a prize of 2 million KRW.
Yoon Junho, a student at Gyeongnam Robot High School, stood out in the field of invention by receiving the Minister of Education’s Award at the 18th Korea Youth Invention Idea Contest and the Minister of SMEs and Startups Award at the 19th Korea Youth Invention Idea Contest.
Jang Nara, a student at Samhyeon Girls' High School, received the Minister of Education’s Award at the 32nd and 33rd Korea Student Invention Exhibitions, respectively, and the Minister of Science and ICT Award at the 2020 Korea Student Creativity Olympics.
Jang Ji-won, a student at Gyeongnam Science High School, was selected as a national representative for the 15th International Earth Science Olympiad. She won a silver medal at the 2021 International Remote Astronomy Olympiad (IRAO) and received the Student Division Grand Prize in the Earth and Environment category at the 67th National Science Exhibition for her research on ‘Construction of a Radio Telescope Using a Satellite Receiving Antenna Dish and Pulsar Observation.’ She is also a promising talent in astronomy, having won the silver prize at the 22nd National Student Statistics Utilization Competition for ‘Statistical Analysis of HII Regions in Spiral Galaxies to Understand Correlations of Galactic Physical Quantities.’
Cha Minjun, a student at Changwon Science High School, led the UNESCO club for three years and distinguished himself in the environmental field by winning the silver prize at the 18th Korea Science and Technology Exhibition (KSEF) and the Minister’s Award at the 17th Chemistry Exploration Frontier Festival. He was also invited to the 8th APEC Science Gifted Online Symposium as a 2020 Science Gifted Scholarship student.
