Next Year's 4.18 GHz Public Frequency Band... Utilization for Weapon Enhancement and Coast Guard Operations
Development of Korean Satellite Navigation System (KPS)... Also for Coast Guard Operations
[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on the 29th at the Public Frequency Policy Council that it will supply a bandwidth of 4.18 GHz for public use frequencies next year.
According to the Radio Waves Act, the Ministry of Science and ICT annually collects frequency demand from the military, central administrative agencies, and public institutions in advance and prepares a supply and demand plan for public use frequencies.
As a result of evaluating the 67 submitted demands, it was decided to supply a bandwidth of 4.18 GHz (including overlapping between agencies) for 44 cases (9 appropriate, 35 conditionally appropriate).
The frequencies to be supplied next year will be used for KEPCO's Ieum 5G (formerly 5G specialized network), development of the Korean Positioning System (KPS) to complement GPS, maritime voice communication for the Korea Coast Guard's operations, and operation of advanced and unmanned weapon systems for smart defense.
Additionally, to supply radar frequencies in saturated frequency bands, guidelines for joint use of weather/rain and marine surveillance radars were established and reflected in the supply and demand plan.
