Gyeongbuk Province Clinches Multiple Gyeongbuk Environmental Awards This Year
Triple Crown Winner of 2021 Environmental Policy Evaluation: Grand Prize, Excellence, and Merit
Achievements Include Nationwide Cleanliness Campaign and Early Detection of Illegal Waste Dumping
Gyeongsangbuk-do won the Grand Prize, the Best Award, and the Excellence Award in the environmental policy evaluation in 2021.
View original image[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Intern Reporter Lee Seryeong] Gyeongsangbuk-do won all the top awards in the 2021 environmental policy evaluation, including the Gyeongbuk Environmental Award Grand Prize, the Excellence Award, and the Merit Award.
Gimcheon City and Chilgok County received the Grand Prize of the Gyeongbuk Environmental Award this year, while Andong City and Uiseong County won the Excellence Award, and Sangju City and Seongju County received the Merit Award.
The Gyeongbuk Environmental Award, introduced in 1997, annually evaluates outstanding cities and counties based on government joint evaluation results in the environmental sector, the proportion of environmental budget secured, and special policies by city and county, awarding commendations and incentives.
This year, the final selection was made through quantitative evaluation of scores in six government joint evaluation sectors and the proportion of environmental budget secured, followed by special policy assessments in four sectors and presentations of best practices.
Gimcheon City, selected as the Grand Prize winner, achieved excellent results in the government joint evaluation and promoted environmental conservation and resource circulation awareness through the "Happy together Gimcheon" citizen-wide cleanliness campaign.
Chilgok County conducted regular patrols by monitors around closed factories and warehouses, early detecting over 700 tons of illegally dumped waste, and carried out campaigns encouraging the use of reusable cups in public institutions and the "Everyone Bring Your Tumbler" campaign.
Andong City established a real-time IoT water quality and air monitoring system, and Uiseong County received high scores for promoting the slate building renovation project in the Hansen settlement village.
Sangju City was recognized for its achievements in renewable energy and greenhouse gas reduction projects, while Seongju County was acknowledged for improvements in the collection and disposal of agricultural waste vinyl.
